Check out Randy Lee music!

Hey everyone, this has nothing to do with help or fitness, but it is something very personal and important to me!  My boyfriend Randy is an aspiring musician who often competes in online contests.  I am posting a link to his most recent entry, if you could go by and take a look, I would really appreciate it!!  See it HERE

Also, here is a link to his music page on Facebook, if you can go by and "Like" it :)

Thanks!!

9 weeks to go

With only 9 weeks remaining until the Rock N Roll Providence half marathon, I am slightly behind where I would like to be in my training.  So I have decided to join a challenge group!  I am sure most of you are on InstaGram, and if you want, you can follow me at: Island_Life8.  On here, I follow many different fitness and inspiration feeds that help keep me motivated.  One of them is the guy who runs Slamboyyfitness.com  He is AWESOME.  Each month he has been posting a different challenge and encourages people to try it out with him!  So this month is Active August.

Because I am in the full swing of training for the half-marathon, I will be keeping up with this challenge group as well as sticking to my training schedule.  Each day I will post here my IG photo that corresponds with that day's challenge.  Really excited for this :)

August 1: Goal
My goal this month is to reach my target Nike Fuel Points every day, to run 100 miles total and to get my single mile time under 9 minutes.  Super ambitious but I have got to challenge myself if I am going to run the half marathon with sub 11min/mile time!!'

August 2: Flex Friday

I've always been self-conscious about my big cheerleader calves, but I am learning to love them!  Unfortunately my shoulder flex leaves a lot of room for improvement, but I am working on it!!  I will say that I am REALLY happy with my 5 mile run!  Just over 12 minute/miles.

Day 3: Favorite Ab Exercise
OK, so I am not sure what kind of crazy person has a favorite ab exercise, but here is one that I have been using since my cheering years: hollow rocks.  All the gymnasts out there know what I am talking about!  Nothing fancy, but MAN do they work when you do them correctly!  I did a jog/run combo, stopping every 1/2 mile to do 10 push-ups!  OUCH

Rock n Roll Half marathon training plan

I am SO ready to kick my PR in the butt for this half marathon in September!  My ultimate goal is to run sub 10 min/miles but I know that that won't work for this race.  My last was at a pace of 12:30min/mile, so anything under 12 min/miles will be amazing.

I found this training plan online, and I love it!  I have modified it based on my own schedule and what I will be able to accomplish but there is no doubt that I will be working hard!  The schedule calls for 5 days/week but I am going to push for 6.  4 days running plus 2 days of other activity (Zumba, yoga, rollerblading with Randy, or a P90X workout at home, etc.)  The plan is 8 weeks but on Monday when I began I had 11 weeks remaining so I extended week 7 into 4 weeks.  I am really excited about this one!!

Week 1:

Day 1 - 2:1:2  Means walk 2 miles, run 1 mile, walk 2 miles = 5 miles total
   I modified a bit like so - 0.8 walk, 2.0 run, 1.4 walk = 4.2 miles, total time 1:00:25 = 14'26"/mile

Day 2 - Zumba!!  Always a blast :)  My sister convinced me to wear my hand-weights the entire class, and man I felt it at the end!

Day 3 - Slept late + heat wave here in MA = no outside running for this kid.  Indoor workout this afternoon!

Back on the wagon!

Hey everyone!
I have been terrible about updating since the half marathon! School has kept me busier than ever!

Unfortunately I did not stick to my commitment of 10miles every weekend haha Not even close. Life gets in the way, but that's no excuse. I need to be better!  I have set a new goal using my Nike+ ID to run 100miles in 60 days. I will succeed!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer, happy running :)

6/18/13- I ran a quick 15minutes this morning around the track at UMass

6/19/13 Had a great run this afternoon! 3 miles in just over 35 minutes. I ran the first 2 miles without stopping for breaks!  Work tomorrow, so probably won't run but Friday I an going for a full 5k, no breaks!!

Warm Up & Cool Down

Alright, be honest... Do you consistently do a warm-up and cool-down with every workout?  I know I sure don't.  Now that I have finally relaxed from writing at school, I have been able to catch up on some reading I've been backed up on.  One of the things I want to share with you is warm-up and cool-down, or the WU/CD as I'll be referring to it :)

You would never jump into an aerobics class like kickboxing or Zumba without a WU/CD right?  So why would you do it for other activities, such as running, or even weight-lifting?

Recently, a friend introduced me to a blog from a local gym, Boutique Fitness in New Bedford, MA.  It is fantastic!  They have such wonderful little tips and recipes available.  In addition, they have great videos that are easily incorporated into the beginning and end of any workout!  Check them out if you have time!

I did a nice little 2 mile run with Randy yesterday.  It was chilly with the wind around the pond, and my lungs hurt pretty badly by the end!  It was my first run since the half marathon though, so baby steps!  We did P90X Ab Ripper X when we got home... TOUGH haha SORE today, that's for sure!!

Shameless plug

Hey everyone!  Please do me (and yourself) a favor and watch this video of my boyfriend, Randy, killing this guitar solo!  If you can take a moment and post a comment, it would be really appreciated :)

Thanks!!!!

New challenge! YAY

So now that the New Bedford Half Marathon is in my rear-view, I am ready to move on to a new goal.  I would LIKE to re-start my previously halted burpee challenge... time will tell haha

Also, I have made a pledge to run 7-10 miles every Sunday.  I know myself, and for those of you that also know me, this is quite ambitious.  But I figure if I SAY every Sunday, chances are I will make it happen at least twice per month!  I want to keep myself in race-ready condition.  Especially because there is a long list of races I would like to compete in in 2013!  The next race on my radar is the Girls on the Run 10K in Providence, RI
